You guys!!! I am so incredibly excited to share this project with you!!! Can you tell? 😉 This project is one that I have been dreaming of for years. YEARS! Even before I owned a home I would drool over all of the gorgeous mudrooms on Pinterest. I vowed that when I finally got a place of my own, I would build one, and here it is!
There were so many different steps to completing this project that I am going to go though each one in separate posts. For now, I will just share the eye candy with you and talk a little about the experience as a whole.
So, this is what we started with. A blank wall in the entry that was begging for a little love and attention. I shared this photo on my Instagram page showing how I had traced a rough outline with chalk of my idea for the scale and size of the mudroom bench. I had a general idea of how we were going to tackle it but this was one of the first major builds that we have done that didn’t follow any sort of plan or tutorial. Needless to say, we were very nervous. Especially since it will be a permanent fixture in the home.
He is what it looked like about halfway through. We had built the main structure and were just waiting to paint, stain and add accessories. It was looking ok but I was still a little unsure of how it would work in the space. Would it be too big? Would it look out of place. Was it too fancy? Was the beadboard going to lean too much on the country side?
I was so excited to get to the painting! That is usually when things really start coming together and I can see my vision becoming reality. This was absolutely my #loveitmoment. The moment I realized that the mudroom bench was going to be even more awesome that I had been dreaming of.
I still had to paint a few areas and stain the bench seat but seeing the whole piece put together and mostly painted was enough to make me giggle with joy. This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.
The finishing touches were to add some accessories, like baskets, coat hooks, a boxwood wreath, a rug, and an old weathered oar that we scored from some awesome friends.
I love the way the fence picket framed mirror bounces back the light and brightens the whole space.
As amazingly happy as I am with the space already, there are still a few finishing touches to be completed, such as a new light fixture, re-staining the front door and maybe even a bamboo shade over the window for privacy. I have found a ton of gorgeous contenders for new lighting on Build.com. I’ve been oohing and ahhing at their collection of industrial lighting.

It is SO gorgeous, Sarah! And I have to tell you – the built in bench I have at my backdoor looks just like this, except that the bench part is painted white like the rest of the piece. I SO wish it was stained like yours. The everyday wear and tear is rearing its ugly head on my piece, and I think you will be so happy that yours will hold up better with the stained seat. You did a totally amazing job on this!
