Happy hump day, guys. Anyone else in need of another 4 day weekend? I hope you had a chance to take a peek at part one of my Christmas home tour yesterday.
I have been wanting some deer antlers for a while but I’m not much of a hunter and my hubby hasn’t had time to get out and go hunting this year yet. The prices of antlers at home decor stores can be pretty ridiculous so that wasn’t an option either.
You can imagine my delight when my mother-in-law sent down a package for my husband and in it was a little deer antler. But, also included in that package were jars of homemade pickles and a few other things. One of the pickle jars got broken during shipping and the post office had to clean up and repackage everything.
Unfortunately, between the mess and the length of time it took to get everything cleaned up, the antler came out of the ordeal pretty stinky and moldy. No problemo though. I figured I could cover all of the nastyness by painting the antler. I love the look of the glossy painted antlers in some high end decor stores so when DecoArt asked if I’d like to try out their new line of Americana Decor Maxx Gloss paint, I knew exactly what I wanted to paint with it.
There were a couple of holes drilled through the antler, so I filled them with putty and then sanded it smooth.
Then I painted on three thin coats of Americana Decor Maxx Gloss paint in the color White China. I love how smooth and shiny the finish is and the fact that it’s water-based is such a bonus in my book. There’s no smell and clean-up is super easy.
Americana Decor Maxx Gloss comes in 20 gorgeous colors that you can find at Michaels (in-store & online), Home Depot (select stores & online), Jo-Ann Fabric & Crafts Stores (in-store & online), and Meijer.
