Hello again, my friends! I hope you are having a spectacular week so far. I have been crafting it up the past few days, getting my home all ready for Christmas! One of my favorite places to decorate for the season is the front porch. There’s just something about the warm glow of the lights and the pretty garland outlining the doorway.

*A big “thank you” to DecoArt for sponsoring today’s post. All ideas and opinions are 100% my own.

And you know me, I can’t just buy any old decoration at the store and call it that. I have to put my own spin on it and give it it that personal touch. I found this adorable wooden sled from Michaels and knew I wanted to spiff it up with a pretty paint job, a grain sack stripe and maybe even a new handle.

Here are my supplies:

  • Wooden sled
  • Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in the colors Romance and Lace
  • Painter’s tape
  • Jute string

Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint is available in Michaels in the wood and finishes aisle. Visit the DecoArt Chalky Finish website for more chalk paint ideas and inspiration.

First I removed the white string handle and painted the whole sled in Romance (red).

After it was dry, I taped off where I wanted my grain sack stripe to go and used a little trick that helps to keep your paint lines perfect. I painted a thin line of red paint over the tape lines where the stripe was going to go and then let it dry. This acts as a barrier to keep the other paint from seeping under the tape.

Then I painted on my white paint (Lace) in between the two paint lines. I used the two grooves in the sled as a guide for my other two smaller stripes on the sides.

I let everything dry thoroughly and then carefully pealed off the tape. I added a new handle using a few strands of jute string twisted tight and tied at the ends. You will want to thread your handle through the sled before tying both ends.

I just love the festive pop of color! I think I may have created a slight obsession with grain sack stripes. You can be sure to see more in my future. 😉
