Take an inexpensive wooden dowel from the craft store and create this super easy DIY wood bead garland.

Hey guys! It’s time for another Monthly DIY Challenge! If you’re new to the challenge you can read all about it and browse previous month’s projects here. Our theme for April is wooden dowels. For this challenge, I decided to turn a simple round wooden dowel into a DIY wood bead garland.

Have you seen the price of wood bead garland at home decor stores? It’s outrageous! It’s not much more cheaper to buy your own wood craft beads and DIY it either. On the other hand, a dowel is super cheap at the hardware or craft store.

Tools & Materials:

  • 3/4″ diameter wooden dowel
  • miter box saw
  • sand paper
  • power drill and drill bit
  • jute string

How to Make a DIY Wood Bead Garland out of Dowels:

First, I cut the dowel into 3/4″ wide pieces using a miter box and saw. You can use a compound miter saw, but it’s a lot safer to just use the miter box.

Once I had all my pieces, I drilled a hole in each bead with a power drill and bit and then sanded them down to get rid of any splinters.

Next, I strung them up on some jute string, tying a double knot after each bead. You want to make sure the knots are big enough so the dowel pieces don’t slide over them.

Then, I tied a loop at one end and tied the other end off with a double knot.

All done! So cute!

I just hooked the loop around the last bead to secure the garland around the lamp base.
